Simandou Strategic Committee Commends Nimba Mining Company’s Growth as It Surpasses 4 Million Tonnes of Exported Bauxite
Conakry, June 30, 2026 – The Simandou Strategic Committee held a meeting on June 30, 2026, in Conakry to review the operational and financial results of Nimba Mining Company (NMC) for the first half of 2026.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Djiba Diakité, Minister and Director of Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic and Chairman of the Simandou Strategic Committee, in the presence of Committee members and Nimba Mining Company executives. The working session enabled the Simandou Strategic Committee to review NMC’s trajectory since its creation by presidential decree on August 4, 2025, the performance achieved since the resumption of operations, and the next stages of its industrial development.
Sustained Operational Growth
During the meeting, NMC presented the main results achieved since the restart of its activities. In ten months of operations, the company surpassed the milestone of 4 million tonnes of exported bauxite, confirming the strength of its industrial recovery and the gradual ramp-up of its integrated mine–rail–port value chain.
The Simandou Strategic Committee also reviewed NMC’s projected growth trajectory, which provides for a continued gradual increase in production and export volumes over the coming years.
Local Content and Guinean Skills at the Heart of Discussions
The meeting paid particular attention to employment, local content and the development of national skills. Nimba Mining Company currently has 381 employees, 98% of whom are Guinean, in addition to 1,928 permanent employees mobilized by subcontracting companies involved in mining, railway, port, logistics and technical activities.
The Simandou Strategic Committee welcomed the importance given to Guinean skills in the company’s operations and growth. It encouraged NMC to continue its efforts in training, skills transfer, engagement with local companies, and the creation of opportunities for young Guinean technicians, engineers and executives.
Accelerating Local Transformation of Mineral Resources under the Simandou 2040 Programme
Beyond operational results, discussions focused on major projects aimed at evolving Guinea’s mining model toward greater local processing and value creation. The Simandou Strategic Committee notably examined prospects related to bauxite processing, the development of local industrial capacities, and the diversification of NMC’s activities into other strategic minerals.
“The results presented today demonstrate Guinea’s ability to take back control of its strategic assets, mobilize national expertise and progressively build an integrated mining value chain. Under the vision of the Head of State, His Excellency Mamadi Doumbouya, our ambition is to make our natural resources a genuine driver of industrialization, job creation and economic sovereignty for the benefit of the Guinean people,” said Mr. Djiba Diakité, Minister and Director of Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic and Chairman of the Simandou Strategic Committee.
The growth of Nimba Mining Company is fully aligned with the vision of the Head of State, His Excellency Mamadi DOUMBOUYA, embodied in the Simandou 2040 Sustainable and Responsible Socio-Economic Development Programme. It contributes in particular to the objectives of Pillar 3 – Infrastructure, Transport and Technologies, through the operation of an integrated logistics chain, as well as to those of Pillar 1 – Agriculture, Industry & Trade, by promoting industrialization, the emergence of a national champion and the strengthening of Guinea’s economic sovereignty.
Through its monitoring of NMC’s performance, the Simandou Strategic Committee reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that the country’s natural resources sustainably support industrialization, local transformation, employment and the creation of national value.
