Nimba Mining Company Completes Its First Bauxite Shipment: A Major Milestone for Guinea's Mining Development
Kamsar, November 4, 2025 — Less than three months after its creation, Nimba Mining Company S.A. (NMC) has reached a decisive milestone in the revival of Guinea's national mining sector with its first shipment of 200,000 tonnes of high-quality bauxite, under a sales contract for 1.5 million tonnes of bauxite signed on October 15, 2025.
This success marks Guinea's entry into a new era of mining development, in which the country is taking control of its value chain, from extraction to processing and marketing of its resources. Ultimately, the ambition is to build a complete industrial ecosystem around bauxite.
“Created on August 5, 2025, following the takeover of strategic assets previously managed by a company that had failed to meet its commitments — as confirmed by the decisions of the Code of the Republic of Guinea, notably the Mining Code, Ordinance No. 88 of the Base Convention — NMC represents a new industrial era for Guinea's mining sector: a model based on sovereignty, performance and transparency,” said Djiba Diakité, Minister Director of Cabinet of the Presidency and Chairman of the Simandou Strategic Committee.
As the first 100% nationally owned mining company, NMC embodies the Government of Guinea's determination to rationalize and professionalize the management of its natural resources while ensuring their full value creation within the national territory. Under the leadership of the Simandou Strategic Committee, an intensive program to restart activities has been carried out since August: mobilization of personnel, renovation of equipment, signing of subcontracting agreements, and operational tests.
“This first shipment is the result of an exceptional collective commitment that has enabled the effective resumption of exports from the Kamsar facilities. In just two months, we have successfully mobilized the necessary equipment and demonstrated that Guinea today has all the capabilities required to operate and develop its natural resources. Nimba Mining Company aims to become a national champion, not only in mineral extraction but also in the transformation of bauxite in order to increase the value created locally,” said Patrice L'Huillier, Managing Director of Nimba Mining Company.
This first success, welcomed by the authorities, also sends a strong signal to Guinea's entire mining sector: the revival led under national leadership is a concrete demonstration of the country's ability to combine sovereignty with industrial efficiency.
“The restart of NMC's operations, achieved in record time, demonstrates Guinea's ability to ensure the continuity of its strategic mining activities. This first shipment symbolizes the resumption of control over our resources and the emergence of a credible national operator. It represents an important milestone in consolidating our mining sovereignty and professionalizing the sector,” said Djiba Diakité, Minister Director of Cabinet of the Presidency and Chairman of the Simandou Strategic Committee.
In the coming years, NMC aims to become a leading player in Guinea's mining sector by generating value beyond extraction through the establishment of integrated industrial ecosystems. This strategic direction is based on four pillars: strategic partnerships, which the company intends to develop through major industrial partnerships.
